Art, friendship, and the quiet magic of the pets who share our lives—these threads wove together once more this week. For nearly two decades I’ve worked alongside a dear friend, and through her I’ve come to know her husband and their ever-growing furry family. After several months apart, we finally met again for the handoff of their newest pastel: a portrait of Ripp, the lively new dog who has joined their home. Created in the same style as the earlier commissions of Gabby and Roscoe, this piece felt like a natural continuation of a story we’ve been telling together. The visit was pure joy—warm conversation, laughter, and the chance to meet Ripp in person after studying his face so carefully in photos. Their continued trust in my work and the easy friendship we’ve built mean more than I can say. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do: every artwork is not just a portrait, but a small celebration of the bonds that matter most.
