A local farmer from Maxwell, California requested a painting of our Sutter Buttes from the west side. He has a beautiful view from his property, and I felt honored that he commissioned this oil painting. He gave me free rein with how to interpret the photos he provided. The funny thing with this painting is that it began as a fall/winterpiece, then we transitioned it to a springtime image (the field was green with growing rice), and then we saw a great photo with dramatic clouds and a lot of waterfowl, so we decided to transition back to a winter painting. If this painting were ever x-rayed, they would see a full seasonal transition amongst the layers of paint.
Thank you, Daryl, for the commission. It was a great project and very fun to meet you and your lovely wife, Jenifer.
